The Dutch Born Pockets series features some excellent artwork. The design is constant throughout the series; if you’ve seen one, you’ve seen ’em all. Except for the art. Each is different and not one of them is a clunker. The picture rarely has anything to do with the story, but c’mon, quit being so picky.
Don’t ask me why the collection id is ED12 when “9” is clearly printed on the cover with a circle around it. Every book in the series has a number that differs from its official id. Must be a Dutch thing. Dat is het leven.

It is a Dutch thing. The circled numbers are the John D. MacDonald stories. So this his his 9th paperback in the serie. The publisher Born Poockets started a ‘D-serie’ Where the ‘D’ stands for ‘Dectective’ The first story ‘Het diepblauw vaarwel’ [The deep blue good-bye] was published as ‘D28’ and was the 28th detective paperback in the serie. The 8th title ‘Een onooglijk geel oog’ [One fearful yellow eye] as ‘D78’ For some reason the publisher started a new serie the ‘ED-serie’ and stands for ‘Extra Detective’ and number 9 was published as ‘ED12’ (not ED27)

Thanks for the explanation, Uilke. This has been bothering me for a long time. You are right, of course, “ED12” is correct. I also corrected the title, which should be “De grijze smaak van de angst”, not “De grijze smaak van angst”. My Dutch is limited to items one can order in a cafe.
