I may have said this before, but John D. MacDonald was not an attractive man. Great writer but…c’mon, don’t make me say it again. I can only suppose that some vanity caused him to insist that his photo be moved from its usual back cover position to the front. Am I alone here, or does someone think it might have helped sales?

There is a nice review on the unfortunately no-longer-active blog PornoKitsch here. He makes a lot of JDM’s use of unreliable narrators. Just reading his synopses of each story makes me want to read the book again. Well, except for “The Annex”. I never cared for that one. I highly recommend taking a few hours and grazing through the back issues of the blog. The comments might be the best part! You won’t regret it.
