Five hundred posts! Well, I guess that shows those of you who said I couldn’t count that high. You know who you are, Mom.

I really like this cover. I’ve been saving it for a special occasion and I guess this is it. The inestimable Barbara Walton strikes again, and strikes with conviction. The pictured girl is Leila, of course, and Ms Walton’s style is not exactly realistic but is very powerful. The hair consists of pencil-thick strands that don’t curl but change direction at sharp angles. Some of them drop down, some head off the right side of the cover, and others shoot straight upwards. The face isn’t a complex curved surface but a series of angular planes. The eyes are completely hidden by shadows. And her expression! This woman has reached the limits of her endurance and can go no further.

What an excellent cover.

An excellent choice ( and a UK one at that ) for cover 500. . I wouldn’t mind finding a copy for £1.25 now. Many thanks for one of my most visited blogs.

Aw shucks, Warren, thanks, although I bet you say that to all the girls. Does it work?

You are certainly right about the price. Most Robert Hales I have seen for sale go for US$1,000 or more.
