It’s hard to believe that we haven’t seen this McGinnis effort before. It’s one of his later efforts and falls squarely in his Montage Of Many Different Scales Period. The Spanish architecture and boat place the action in Florida, the sinking car tells you there is murder involved, and the chaste girl with prayerful hands tells you that she’s a Good Girl. Or not, since the way she was drawn, her shoes must have six inch heels. I’m frankly surprised that she can even stand up.

And what’s with the man? He either has hair covered in tiny red roses or (my choice!) he has been hit in the head with both barrels of double ought buckshot. No wonder he’s not paying attention to the girl.

This artwork was used for several editions. This is the 7th printing.

Have you seen me? I am a USA paperback version of Where is Janice Gantry?, printed in 1989 by Fawcett under their Gold Medal imprint (ISBN-10 0449448088, ISBN-13 9780449025680). I’ll bet you a nickel that I have one of those “circle” covers.
