I say the artist is unknown, but I’m willing to wage a small sum that it’s Robert McGinnis. Who else would draw Dr. Travis McGee, Salvage Chiropractor, about to perform a correction on a lady with severe scoliosis. Somebody chime in, please.

Update (10/25/2102): It is McGinnis. Thanks, Steve.

I believe that with this post, each of the major groups of McGee covers for Gold have been posted (minor variations excepted). There is the original “box” design, the magnificent “shape” cover, this quasi-shape design with (I think) McGinnis art, and the penultimate “double” cover. You can tell by the straightforward author font that this edition came out before Lemon‘s popularity incited Fawcett to redesign all of JDM’s covers with the funky author font that graced all of his books for a number of years.

Of course, I do not include the infamous “color” cover, since that design group is not art and may be single-handedly responsible for the death of the paper book as we know it. It is sometimes suitable for wrapping fish, if you have low self-esteem and also don’t care much about the fish.
