So yesterday’s post was apparently a Robert McGinnis effort that doesn’t look like one to me. I’m pretty sure that today’s cover was done by Robert McGinnis but I can’t find a reliable source (i.e. anonymous internet post) that says so. Somebody must know. Update (07/06/2012): I was right! It is McGinnis.

One reason I’m pretty sure is because this artwork looks an awful lot like this one. Now I’m certainly no McGinnis expert, but his work falls into three stages. Well, as far as John D MacDonald, anyway. Early on, he used his classic girls that we all know and love, then he went to a more realistic and less titillating style of which this is an example, and lastly he tried out a montage style. Today’s intermediate style is the least interesting.

The vehicle is obviously Miss Agnes, but I’m not sure who the girl is supposed to be.It can’t be Betsy Kapp — her … uh … crumpets are insufficiently … uh … leavened — and she is far too sophisticated to be the swamp rat Lilo Paris. Must be Heidi, although she looks nothing like my image of Heidi. Hey, maybe it’s Raoul, the missing lynx who never appears again!

You can read a sarcastic, disapproving review here.
