Does anybody else find the scene pictured here to be one of John D MacDonald’s most disturbing? Yeah, the one on the beach where … you know … the bucket … yeah, that one. It gives me the willies every time I think of it. Other contenders include the barely described gang rape in The Empty Trap and the scene where Travis McGee is trying to reorient himself after being shot by Boo Waxwell. I must be leaving out your favorites. Chime in, please!

Barbara Walton does her usual excellent job here. She manages to convey a lot with just a little — my definition of a professional.
