An earlier cover of Flash featured artwork that I suspected was by Robert McGinnis but wasn’t sure. Nobody chimed in on the subject, so I’m still not sure. Does anybody know? This one I’m sure is McGinnis. Although the signature sunset is missing, the cloud is certainly there, and if that girl is not a McGinnis devochka, then I’m a racehorse. Besides, anonomous posters on the interwebs say it is, so it must be.

We can’t even begin to discuss this cover without mentioning those pants. No, I have no idea whatsoever what might be holding them up. There must be six inches between her navel and the waistband. Very clever of McG to add in a waist necklace to draw our attention to the fact. Like somebody might not notice.

Those diagonal lines are not part of the artwork, although they are suggestive of the kind of run-down beach erosion control fences you find on the Atlantic Coast (the story actually takes place on the Gulf Coast of Florida). It’s more likely that someone just ran over this copy.

Is this the first example of the common-as-muck practice of wearing your waistband under your arse so prevelant amongst people who need to be punched…………..hard !

The cover above is definitely by McGinnis; my copy (Fawcett 12659-5, same illustration) has a small but legible signature on the left side below the vegetation. It’s also confirmed in ‘The Paperback Covers of Robert McGinnis’. The other cover you mention (0109) is not McG’s work; it reminds me a bit of Stanley Borack’s style but I wouldn’t swear that it is.

Thanks, J.D. My scan of that edition is very good; I can see the signature but I still can’t read it. If you and “Paperback Covers” (wish I could afford a copy!) both say it’s McG, that’s good enough for me.
