March 1, 2012
  • Title: End of the Tiger
  • Canon: End of the Tiger and Other Stories
  • Language: English
  • Country: UK
  • Format: Hardcover
  • Year: 1967
  • Publisher: Robert Hale
  • Cover Price: 18/-
  • Cover Artist: Barbara Walton

That’s no misprint. Robert Hale dropped “and Other Stories” from the title of this one and I don’t blame them. I always thought the original was too much of a mouthful.

I admire Barbara Walton’s work but this one is a bit odd. The well-muscled guy is way too effeminate for my taste; I think it’s the large, droopy eyes. And he’s so British looking. I’d be willing to bet if you put British and Americans side-by-side without any sartorial or other clues, that they would look pretty much alike, but when they’re drawn, it’s easy to spot the differences. Anyway, while this guy does look creepy, he doesn’t seem right for the cover.

He can’t be a Brit , he’s wearing a vest which is a crime here. He does look a bit like a gay Terence Stamp though.
