This nicely done cover of the Czech edition of The Deep Blue Good-by features the typical power boat representing the denouement scene and a very nicely drawn girl. I’m not certain who she is supposed to be, but the unknown artist does a good job of capturing her fear, which is harder than it might sound. Over all, a good cover.

I refuse to be drawn into the argument about whether this book was printed in Czechoslovakia, Czecho-Slovakia, the Republic of Czecho-Slovakia, the Czech and Slovak Federative Republic, or the Czech Republic. The Hyphen War still gives me headaches twenty years later. The book was printed before the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, so dagummit, it was printed in Czechoslovakia. Sue me.

Update (11/05/2012): Just found out it’s a paperback.

Update (09/25/2013): Added cover artist.

Milk Carton

Have you seen me? I am a Czech edition of Darker Than Amber, titled Tmavší než jantar (Darker Than Amber), printed in 1987.
