0175 The Last One Left
This British book club edition of The Last One Left has an interesting cover. There is a over-contrasted rendering of Crissy Harkinson that leaves no doubt that she is a sleeping dog you want to let lie, and yet what is it about the picture that makes you think so? The two thick nose hairs protruding from her right nostril? The Southern Cross constellation of freckles under her eye? No, it’s just her half-closed eyes that are looking away to the right. Nice!
At first I thought that the squiggles to her left were just poorly drawn hair, but now I see that they are hair morphing into a view of a boat as seen through water — perhaps by a drowning person??? Bwa-ha-ha!
All of this is much more interesting to me than the action scene of a gunman about to loose mayhem on a group of people apparently including the author himself at the bottom of the cover. But then, you knew I was a bit strange, didn’t you?
