This 1967 edition of Death Trap features artwork by Keith Johnson Bill Johnson, whom I believe we have not yet seen. I promise not to say a word about how the art should fill the whole cover if you will appreciate what Johnson has done. First of all, he upholds the ancient pulp tradition of suggesting without showing. My first thought was that the girl was practically naked, but he keeps her (almost) completely draped while suggesting otherwise. First rate. The shadows are really well done and he keeps the one-shoe-off motif of the original. Was that a plot point? I can’t remember. My only quibble is that she is too old to be Jane Ann.

Update (08/23/2013): Whoops! That should be Bill Johnson, not Keith Johnson.

Milk Carton

Have you seen me? I am a Dutch paperback version of Death Trap, titled Het beschuldigend verleden (The Accusing Past), printed in 1958 by Schoonderbeek.
