Here is the first edition of Death Trap. I never liked the story so I read it just once years ago. I always felt it was too forced, the cops too nasty, the teenagers too self-important. I re-read it recently to see if it improved with time and whaddya know, it did. It’s still not great, but it’s better than I thought. Steve Scott thinks well of it. You can find still another of his kickass reviews here.

I like the old full-page, pulp covers. As you can see, this one is not full-page, which normally would drop it into the 1980’s put-a-small-bit-of-art-at-the-bottom-and-screw-the-customer category except that Victor Kalin draws (paints?) very well. The one red shoe pulls your eye toward it. Is it a shoe or is it …? Oh, it’s a shoe. Why is it off? What happened here? Excellent.

Have you seen me? I am the British version of Death Trap, printed in 1978 by Littlehampton, probably under the Magnum imprint (ISBN-10 0417029403 , not ISBN-10 0449130177).

Update: (08/20/2020) Found it!
