The last time we featured this book, I hadn’t read it. Well, I still haven’t. Does it really contain scenes of cat torture? Anyway, I can hardly comment on the story, and by now I’m sure you’ve noticed that this is a photo cover and by now I’m sure you know my feelings on that subject. As my momma said, “If you can’t say something nice…”

This is a terrific book, as close as MacDonald ever came to writing his autobiography. It does contain a childhood recollection of JDM witnessing and halfway participating in the drowning of a cat, but the author is properly remorseful and it gives him the opportunity to make some nice observations about guilt and self-image.
