0007 The Deep Blue Good-bye
May 14, 2011
Nobody’s going to be happy until Travis McGee is taken care of, so let’s get started. This is the big one, the first ever, the numero uno. Yes, the first edition of the first Travis McGee book. Ron Lesser’s McGinnisesque covers are classics. None of the later covers measure up.

Have you seen me? I am the Norwegian version of The Deep Blue Good-by, titled Det store blå dypet (The Vast Blue Depths), printed in 1965 by Bladkompaniet as Stjernebok 272.
Update (10/28/2012): Found it! You can see it here.

Don’t forget that the inset portrait of Travis was illustrated by the great John McDermott. He did three different versions on various editions, up to and including the hardcover illustration for The Turquoise Lament.
Thanks for the reminder. I’ve gone through all of the posts with his portrait and updated the artist information to include his name.
